CHESS

Christ Church is a supporter of CHESS which is a group helping to meet the needs of the homeless in Chelmsford. CHESS offers a day centre and overnight accomidations for those in need.

CHELMSFORD CHESS

Enclosed with last month’s News was an invitation to become a life member of the CHESS, the organisation set up by the Chelmsford Churches to support the homeless of our area.  Those who responded to this opportunity will have received a letter of thanks from the Treasurer, which includes the following paragraph:

‘No matter how many people we help or how many new initiatives we undertake, there always seems to be something else which needs to be done.  As time has passed we have discovered how complex the needs really are.  Not only do the homeless need accommodation but also help with how to manage their affairs, get jobs, support to overcome addictions, assistance to get the right help, especially for those who have mental health problems, etc.  So whenever we believe we have everything in place another challenge comes along.  Whilst the government may think the homeless problem can be overcome before we get to 2012 it would appear that this is not going to happen.  While we may solve some individual’s problems, others will come along to replace them and some will not want to be helped or be able to sustain lifestyle changes.  Please continue to pray for our clients, their needs and our staff as they seek to find solutions to client problems.’

So you see, even if you are not able to support CHESS financially, your prayers for their work are of vital importance to those at the sharp end.

We continue to collect clothing, grocery & household items to support the night shelter and to encourage church friends to become volunteer helpers.
